NRCC's building
.
Three things will probably stand out to you when you first walk in the door at NRCC:
…casual simplicity,
…a feel of community,
…an un-churchy spirituality.
Casual Simplicity
- We don’t dress up at NRCC;
- Not in our Sunday-best; and not with nifty facades to cover our shortcomings.
- Our facility doesn’t look very religious.
- It’s a simple building that meets our needs and didn’t sink us in debt. We like that.
- Inside, our decor is casual and streamlined.
- It’s a space conducive to eating, chatting, and getting to know one another.
A Feel of Community
- After the lesson, many of us (not just the minister) speak up and say what we think.
- We don’t always agree with the minister, and everybody seems ok with that.
- We try to eat together once a month (potlucks, picnics, etc.).
- We believe spirituality happens best in community, so we’re always looking to make places for friendships to happen.
Un-Churchy Spirituality
Because the Christian Church in America isn’t very healthy these days, when we considered how we would follow Jesus, we didn’t really go the normal way.- Much more helpful for us has been a combined inquiry into the ancient Christian paths and the wisdom gained from contemporary society.
- Our lessons are very thoughtful and well-considered.
- We often tap into history and science as well as the scriptures, exploring all the wisdom that can help us on our spiritual journeys.
